II.PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
A unique opportunity exists for the position of Job Costing Analyst, Transportation, in the Infrastructure Group located in our Toronto office reporting to the Manager of Job Costing, Transportation. This individual is responsible for setting up, monitoring, analyzing cost reports and comparing actual results against budget for jobs within the Transportation business units. This individual will be a key contact to all the related job sites to help train field personnel, ensure there is complete and accurate information flow from site to the accounting department, understand the current position of the jobs, and to help assist the project teams determine where the jobs will forecast to complete.

III.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Establish a cost control system for each project -- set up and create new jobs in the eCMS accounting system and issue accurate cost catalogues to the project teams on a timely basis; this is carried out by importing flat files from the "Hard$" estimating system to the eCMS job costing system
  • Maintain existing cost catalogues by setting up new cost codes, transferring budgets and costs, and adding change orders/extra work on a timely basis
  • Monitor the performance of jobs versus budget by analyzing the following within the T-A ("Target vs. Actual”) cost reports: project costs overruns/under runs, accurate production quantities are entered by the field, and allocated rate variances are not above internal thresholds
  • Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of operational issues and effectively work with and support the project teams (ex. assist and work with the project teams to forecast revenue and costs to complete for selected jobs)
  • Make regular site visits to monitor job progress – interact with field personnel to ensure production and accounting processes/procedures are in place and functioning -- candidate will need to have a vehicle as travel will be required
  • Organize and attend weekly cost meetings with the Senior Project Team in order to provide status updates on each project; document minutes of the meetings
  • Train Project Coordinators on the following topics: job costing system, policies and procedures and internal processes
  • Liaise with both internal and external auditors and support adherence to Bill 198
  • Other projects as required (ex. assist with ad hoc requests)


IV.KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Experience with job costing in the construction industry would be an asset (i.e. minimum of 3 years experience)
  • Works with a sense of urgency by demonstrating the ability to shift priorities to accomplish objectives
  • Effectively manages time to keep commitments to both internal and external clients
  • Excellent ability to clearly and effectively communicate information and clarify requirements both orally and in writing
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills (team player)
  • Advance knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, specifically Excel and Word
