DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, administers database, web, application and batch process servers, with a primary focus on setup, configuration monitoring and management of PeopleSoft Systems.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintains several database and PeopleSoft environments: applies updates, maintenance packs, patches and fixes for all environments.
  • Performs application upgrades.
  • Maintains and manages database reporting infrastructure.  Participates in design.
  • Monitors server performance and recommends changes as needed.
  • Mentors new DBA staff and provides training.
  • Works closely with developers, support and QA teams to maintain all DB and PeopleSoft environments.
  • Refreshes databases as needed by developers or functional teams.
  • Performs database administration activities including; installation, configuration, monitoring, space management, security, database backup and recovery and disaster recovery.
  • May perform installation, configurations and maintenance for clustered database servers.
  • Plans and performs database server and PeopleSoft upgrades.
  • Performs database reviews and provides input to database design.
  • Writes and reviews stored procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required, higher level education a plus.
  • Minimum of four years of experience as a DBA and two years of PeopleSoft system administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Candidates with 5+ years of professional DBA experience that are willing to learn Peoplesoft will also be considered.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • A seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization.  Works on moderately complex and diverse projects.  Exercises good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Able to design databases according to industry standards and make tuning recommendations.
  • Provide technical support for PeopleSoft and SQL Server issues.
  • Able to write and optimize complex queries.
  • Advanced knowledge of database administration, PeopleSoft system administration, Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and systems analysis procedures.
  • Strong working knowledge of database software and operating systems.
  • Strong communication, writing and editing skills needed to transfer information to individuals involved in development process.  Strong presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) a plus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Generally, typical office setting with environmentally controlled conditions. 
  • Able to work extended hours as business needs dictate.
  • May require participation in afterhours support rotation.
