DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY

Under moderate supervision, administers database, web, application and batch process servers, with a primary focus on setup, configuration, monitoring and management.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintains database environments; applies updates, maintenance packs, patches, & fixes for all environments.
  • Performs application upgrades.
  • Assists in the maintenance and management of database reporting infrastructure.
  • Works closely with developers, support and QA teams to maintain all DB environments.
  • Refreshes databases as needed by developers or functional teams.
  • Performs database administration activities including; installation, configuration, monitoring, space management, database backup and recovery and disaster recovery.
  • Performs database server upgrades.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 18 months to three years of experience in related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Experience with SQL Servers and application administration is required.
  • Peoplesoft skills are a plus. 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Developing professional expertise.  Works on non-complex to moderately complex projects.  Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices.
  • General knowledge of database administration, Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), and systems analysis procedures.
  • General working knowledge of database software and operating systems.
  • General communication, writing, and editing skills needed to transfer information to individuals involved in development process. 
  • General organizational and time management skills.
  • Able to write basic queries.
  • Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) a plus.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Generally, typical office setting with environmentally controlled conditions.  At times, may work in low- temperature server rooms.
  • Able to work extended hours as business needs dictate. 
  • May require participation in after hours support rotation.
