BUSINESS UNIT OVERVIEW:
The joint venture between SNC-Lavalin and Aecon has been awarded two contracts with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to carry out the Darlington Retube and Feeder Replacement (RFR) project and Turbine Generator Replacement (TGR) project.
The Human Resources Generalist will report to the Project Director, with a dotted line to the HR Manager. This position will act as an advisor for the RFR & TGR Joint Venture Projects by providing coaching to Managers and Employees regarding HR policies, employee relations, performance management, employee engagement, training & development and recruitment. In addition, you will be responsible for ensuring alignment between SNC-Lavalin, Aecon and Joint Venture Human Resources practices, through the creation of processes and procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Understand Aecon and SNC-Lavalin human resources policies, procedures, and programs to develop, implement, and administer corresponding uses in the Joint VentureOversee HR activities on the project and ensure that all are in accordance with human resources policies and in compliance with Federal and Provincial employment and labour laws, acceptable practices and regulations; Facilitate the development of learning and development initiatives as required by Aecon, SNC-Lavalin and the Steering CommitteeAdvise employees on any policy, procedure and program queriesPartner with project management and HR management to foster relationships in support of project and company human resources needs including manpower planning for future needs and project transitions between JV Office locationsIdentify potential employee relations issues, resolving as appropriate and elevating to legal and senior human resources management as needed;Provide coaching and assistance to Managers in different processes of HRM retention, performance management, discipline, absence management (disability leave, paternal leave, unpaid holiday) etcMonitor the Joint Venture performance evaluation process and provide counsel and advice to Managers on performance issues up to and including terminations. Ensure JV Managers and Home Company managers are regularly in touch regarding HR Practices such as performance management, employee relations, employee development, absence management etcOversee the development and administration of recruitment strategies and processes; Collaborate with hiring managers to understand recruitment needs, schedule and participate in interviews;Provide recommendations to Management on recruitment strategies, the hiring or transfer of project staff Source and review resumes, conduct interviews, explaining benefits summaries, company culture, long-term vision for position, and any other applicable information for candidates; Provide feedback to applicants and candidates who have applied and/or been interviewed; Assists to establish team and individual project measurements that support the accomplishment of the JV’s strategic and human capital goals to create an integrated Joint Venture teamEvaluates, defines, recommends and leads succession management as per the Project’s Resource Management Plan, maintaining all records and providing regular updates to Project Management with quarterly updates to the Steering Committee.Leads and supports development activities related to succession programs for project employees including training and on-going input and support for manager and employees on overall and individual development plansRecommends and creates employee engagement practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of employee morale and motivation, with goal of increasing engagement for Joint Venture employees.Creation and establishment of programs for Trades Supervision, working to increase leadership capability, engagement and motivation.Involvement in committees related to the Joint Venture including quarterly meetings with Trade Unions, AABO and other external groups, including reviewing and implementing recommended practices as necessary.Regularly updates and reviews all HR Plans, policies and work instructions
Oversees the activities of the JV HR Administrator
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Post secondary school education in Human Resources Management 5-7 years experience in a Human Resources Department Microsoft Office Products Knowledge of HRIS system (SAP an asset) Accurate and detail oriented Excellent organizational & interpersonal skills Demonstrated problem solving abilities Demonstrated ability to influence Must be able to work with minimal supervision and enjoy working in a fast-paced and challenging environment
