Technical Service Specialist (Mod Yard)

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager or Project Manager, the Technical Service Specialist is responsible for providing technical, project control and project management support to ongoing projects.  As an integral part of the project management team, the position ensures that the company's processes and procedures are properly implemented and utilized.




  • Act as a project liaison between the client, subcontractors, and project team;
  • Review contract, scope of work, IFC drawing and all relevant specifications;
  • Issue requests for design changes, clarifications, and technical/engineering issues with the clients/subcontractors by preparing RFI's and NCR's;
  • Complete the initial IFC take-off and assign to appropriate collections.  Update as required based on design/scope change, actual installed quantities;
  • Execute Aecon's Change Management process by initiating change requests, preparing cost estimates, and conducting weekly reviews of change request status; and
  • Review Field Change Notices/Change Directives.


Project Controls

  • Participate in developing, establishing and maintaining the company's project cost/control systems;
  • Assist the project team in setting up project cost codes, the project baseline budget and setting up projects in ICMS;
  • Establish and maintain the process for ensuring timely progressing of installed work including carrying out in-field progress audits;
  • Provide required management reports; and
  • Analyze and review project reports/project schedule to identify deviations and recommend corrective actions.


Project Management Support

  • Assist the project manager in preparing project monthly reports and forecasting;
  • Assist the project scheduler and the project team in preparing, reviewing, and maintaining the project schedule;
  • Support ICMS document control and progress & productivity modules; and
  • Support Materials Management by reviewing material specifications and issuing requisitions for purchase.



  • Good knowledge of the "Earned Value" principles;
  • Ability to read schedules and scheduling curves/reports;
  • Good knowledge of cost engineering/cost control;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word;
  • Organizational skills in order to handle multiple tasks within a high-pressure work site environment;
  • Experience in a Mod Yard setting is preferred;
  • Interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral);
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees;
  • Willingness for continuous learning and advancement of technical knowledge;
  • Detail oriented and customer focused;
  • Post secondary education - Bachelor of Science (Engineering discipline) or C.E.T.; and
  • Between three to five (3 to 5) years of related experience.
