Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, performs direct care to patients in a restraint free environment to promote the recovery of patients. Also provides appropriate medical attention for patients requiring care in voluntary and involuntary situations, under the direction of the Registered Nurse to promote the recovery of patients.
Participate in take interviews and admissions, takes vital signs Provides patients with basic information about the unit. Meets with patients on a daily basis as assigned by the Registered Nurse, to provide therapeutic and supportive counseling. Focuses patient on specific treatment issues. Enters observations in chart and reports patient's condition to team members and to the Registered Nurse. May act as group leader, observing and directing group therapy sessions. Participates in multi-disciplinary treatment team meeting.May function as crisis counselor. Perform other duties as assigned May be requested to participate in leading/facilitating educational/in-service programs. Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings. |
Skills
Required: Requires knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, and basic nursing functions. Requires successful completion of CPI Training as the unit is restraint free. Requires intense attention to ensure a safe environment. Ability to communicate with patients of diverse age, population, and multitude of cultural/ethnic backgrounds.
Experience
Required: 1 yr experience in an acute care, hospital setting or related field
Preferred: Experience as an inpatient mental health unit
Education
Required: A minimum of a High School education or equivalent
Preferred: Completion of an Associates or Bachelors degree program in Behavioral Health or Human Services, or degree eligible.
